Post Malone pays tribute to Hootie and the Blowfish

New York born singer/rapper Post Malone is showing off his versatility. In honor of Pokemon Day, Post dropped off a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1995 hit “Only Wanna Be With You.”

He performed the track on a virtual stream for the Pokemon 25th anniversary celebration, live on both Youtube and Twitch. The accompanying video features a cartoon version of Post performing underwater in a world immersed with Pokemon characters.

Post does this classic track justice. The instrumental from the original version is traded in for a more modern sounding, synthesizer based sound. He even utilizes a sample from the original Pokemon game.

Post’s raspy, grungy sound is distinguishably different from Darius Rucker’s (Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer), but equally pleasing to the ears.

Darius Rucker even took to Twitter to express his excitement, saying “The smile on my face will not leave for a long time. This is awesome. My bro @PostMalone bringing it. Hell yes man!!!!!!!!!”

Give it a listen below and tell us what you think.
