Porter Robinson drops last single before album ‘Nurture’
Have you found yourself stuck in a rut and needing something to look forward to? You aren’t alone, but look no further! Porter Robinson has not only given us the last single off his upcoming album Nurture, but he has also finally given us an official release date for his first project in seven years.
If you are unfamiliar, Porter Robinson is an electronic music producer/DJ from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He began producing dance music at age 13 after having developed an interest from the game Dance Dance Revolution. He released his debut studio album Worlds in 2014, which would go on to change the landscape of electronic music.
Now, if you ARE familiar, and you are a fan of Porter’s, you know this is a really, really, really long time coming. Since the release of Worlds, Porter has made very little noise in the way of new music until last year. In all fairness, he spent much of 2015-2019 performing the Worlds Live set, which goes to show how popular it was among EDM fans considering he was selling out shows for a half a decade after its release.
In January 2020, he released “Get Your Wish,” his first track since his 2016 collaboration with Madeon. “Get Your Wish” would go on to be the first of four singles from his upcoming album, followed by “Something Comforting,” “Mirror,” and finally “Look at the Sky.”
“Look at the Sky” is an ode to positivity. It is centered around an upbeat guitar riff that lays the foundation of the song. Porter himself sings on the track, utilizing vocal effects that give him a higher pitched, almost child-like sound.
He says “look at the sky, I'm still here, I'll be alive next year, I can make something good." He discusses his hopefulness that better days lie on the horizon, and although times are rough right now, he has faith that “something good” will come. It has a sound similar to the previous singles he has released, definitely setting the tone for the album.
Porter revealed that we can expect his full-length sophomore album on April 23. Until then, we’ll be banging this new single along with the others he’s given us to hold us over.
