Tyler, the Creator -“Lumberjack”
With another promising beat, the King himself has released his latest single as an exciting teaser.
Tyler, the Creator’s “Lumberjack,” is a unique track serving as the prequel for his sixth album Call Me If You Get Lost, which will be available later this week.
Tyler is known for his diverse styles of music that sound like no other, and “Lumberjack” does not fail to showcase all of the artist’s capabilities.
He has self-produced a comically reflective and powerfully confident song here, opening with “Rolls-Royce pull up, Black boy hop out, shoutout to my mother and my father, didn’t pull out.”
This track goes hard, tapping DJ Drama for some iconic “Gangsta Grillz” ad libbing and includes Odd Future staples Domo Genesis, L-Boy, and Taco simply to lose their minds in the background.
He also self-directed his own music video (under the pseudonym Wolf Haley); it’s a one-minute production that acts as a Tyler-approved day in the life stream.
The best part about this latest track though, is the fact that Tyler’s rapping! Before he released Igor back in 2019, Tyler told fans not to expect much rap on the album because he had acquired a distaste for it; however this first sneak peak to Call Me If You Get Lost leaves us hopeful that we will hear more of Tyler’s perfectly-constructed bars.
This song is very reminiscent of “Who Dat Boy,” and we’re welcoming this version of Tyler back with open arms. He’s both honoring classic hip-hop and reminding us that even though he can make top-charting pop songs, he’s not done with rap.
Tyler has released many hints as to what to expect on June 25, such as several Instagram posts with captions that may or may-not be the titles on the track list. And to top off the singer's aesthetic style, he also took over both Instagram and physical billboards in major cities such as Los Angeles, Paris and London to promote Call Me If You Get Lost with a phone number: 1 (855) 444-8888...give it a ring for another snippet.
It has been too long since we got to hear the magic that Tyer, the Creator can create. While you’re impatiently awaiting June 25 to come along, listen to “Lumberjack,” out now.
