Donda - Kanye West
Donda - 8.1/10
So… Donda came out. Are you happy now? Did you get what you want? Are you done being pissed off with Kanye? Huh? Are you fucking happy now?
Kanye Performs Donda in Atlanta
On a gloomy July 22nd, Kanye West held a listening party in Atlanta for Donda (named after his late mother, Donda West). 42,000 People attended this event paying upwards of $100. Kanye promised all his fans to drop the album the next day. Did he? No, obviously, here at the chop HQ, we knew this wasn’t going to come out. Instead, Kanye West decided that he needed to lock himself in the 71,000-seat stadium, refusing to leave like the legendary artist he is until he finished the album. That one concert brought in 7 million dollars worth of sales, and at the same time, 5.4 million live-streamed it off apple music. This event matched Taylor Swift’s Redemption Tour, which averaged $7M in revenue per concert.
Later on, He decided to push the album to August 6th, where he held another listening party on August 5th. The album again did not come out. Who would’ve thought?! Again, here at the Chop HQ, we knew.
When all hope seemed lost, there was a glimmer of hope. A third listening party. Could this be the one? Yes.
Donda is the album I expected to come out. I expected this light gospel undertone with large waves of passive-aggressiveness towards Kim K. The album can rock it and features 27 songs with a total of an hour and forty-eight minutes of beats, music, and a woman repeatedly saying Donda.
Some favorites off of the album are
Off The Grid
Jail pt 2
Hurricane
Pure Souls
There are other great songs on the album, but those are my favorites from start to finish after a couple of listens. Anyways I’m not done with you, Kanye
In no way, shape or form is this FUCKING ALBUM COVER SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF. I’m sorry, just because you are an absolute legend (and you always will be), this doesn’t give you a pass to just make your album cover a black screen.
First off people have already done this
Ex. 1 Spinal Tap - This Is Spinal Tap (1984) —>
Ex. 2 Prince almost did the same thing with his album (which was called “The Legendary Black Album” so I’ll give him some slack for that —>
Anyways at-least we got some Kanye in our systems when everything seemed like it was coming to an end. Well at least we can thank Universal Studios for releasing it because without them we may have never gotten the album. 😈
They didn’t even block Jail 2 Kanye…… Anyways LMK your thoughts in the comments.
