Giveon hits restart with “When It’s All Said and Done… Take Time”
Heading into Grammy weekend, American R&B singer Giveon (pronounced gi-vee-on) released a debut-ish project - combining the material from his album Take Time and his EP When It’s All Said and Done. Giveon also offered us a little surprise, adding one new song at the end of the tracklist, “All to Me.”
Born in Long Beach, CA, Giveon rose to prominence throughout 2020 in large part thanks to a highly coveted appearance on “Chicago Freestyle” off of Drake’s 2020 project Dark Lane Demo Tapes.
By combining his two most recent projects, Giveon has created a more holistic body of work. “My first two EPs were stories about a chapter in my love life…” Giveon spoke on Instagram, “…the bright spots and the nuisances. I really just used music as a vehicle to exhibit all of my vulnerabilities and truths. The fact that so many people are moved by my stories leaves me speechless everyday.”
Albeit it was a terrible year for musicians as a whole, the soulful crooner had himself a huge year in 2020: A song with Drake, a debut album, a performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, a chart topping R&B single “Like I Want You,” and a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album, and as of Friday, a wildly successful hit song with Justin Bieber…just to name a few of his accomplishments.
Giveon should be on everybody’s radar going forward, as he is sure to make even bigger splashes in 2021.
