“Up” - Cardi B
Cardi B’s new release “Up” has several people discussing the singer's use of plagiarism – again. Allegations of Cardi’s release sounding extremely similar to a single by artists Mir Pesos and Mir Fontane’s titled “Stuck,” has listeners on Twitter questioning if it is just a coincidence that both songs overly repeat the phrase “if it's up, then it's stuck.”
Rapper Mir Fontane took to Twitter to ask her for his share of the profit, and Cardi passionately denied even knowing of Fontane’s existence, stating that “If I get inspired by a song I wouldn’t mind giving a percentage or couple of thousand but I never hurd if this man.”
Not many people are going to let this slide after her lyrics in Blueface’s “Thotiana Remix” resembled those of Rapper Dela Wesst back in July.
As for the song review itself, Cardi’s “Up” definitely checks her usual boxes: catchy, relentless and trashy. I am personally not a Cardi fan, and to me, this track serves as much purpose as listening to “Wap” on TikTok.
However, “Up” is actually not a sexual innuendo even though it really seems like one; it’s about having unsettled beef with “bitches” whose “breath smell like horse sex,” and call her ugly while their boyfriends are secretly trying to seduce her.
I will give Cardi this: a 10/10 on reaching the expectations of her own category. The song definitely does encourage confidence and will probably have a viral dance to go along with it within the next couple weeks.
A Cardi song would not be a Cardi song if it didn't make you fight the urge to shake your body and get the hook stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
