‘V!BEZ Vol. 4’ - TroyBoi
The long awaited V!BEZ Vol. 4, TroyBoi’s latest EP, dropped January 29. The trap god produced the whole project in his London home studio under his personal label T Dot. The sounds are unique and demonstrate his growth as an artist.
The first song on the EP “Bellz,” samples Anita Ward's disco classic “Ring My Bell.” The track feels fresh, while still staying true to his classic dirty drops.
TroyBoi reveals his inspiration in an Instagram post, stating "when I was a littleBoi, my parents would blast the original track by Anita Ward in my house and it immediately became one of my favourite songs of all time.”
Troyboi brings back Nina Sky, who was featured on his hit “Afterhours” with Diplo, on the second track “Eyez On Me.” Honestly I think they were trying to recreate the magic formula from their first collab, but lightning did not strike twice on this one.
The next feature is brazilian duo Tropkillaz on the third song “Corneta.” This one definitely has Latin vibes and was named after a small brass instrument called a cornet. It’s a rhythmic track best heard through headphones, max volume, vacuuming your house, and shaking your ass.
“Baby,” the fourth of seven on the EP, has an interesting progression of bass and a cool integration of lyrics. Even though this song makes no sense, Troyboi somehow manages to masterfully manipulate the different components of the track.
The down-tempo of “Unstoppable” and violin screeches makes this the spooky track of the project. This one is a dirty trap song with nasty bass … a perfect love story <3.
Second to last, “On My Own,” holds the last featured track from the EP. Even though this isn’t my favorite track, it’s original and serves us the female vocals over bass tracks we all crave.
The final track, “Clear Waters,” is a slow jam and a stand alone from the album. Groovy and melodic, with the sounds of nature in the background, it’s a meditative and tranquil listening experience.
The EP is a 7.5/10. Bring on the full studio album.
