Let’s Get Whacky

Undoubtedly, the world gets a little brighter when Tierra Whack drops music. Her debut audiovisual album Whack World in 2018 is still iconic and honestly, I did not think anything would top it.

But here I am playing her new singles on repeat, genuinely wondering if I will ever listen to another artist again.

Philly legend Whack has released two singles this week, “Peppers and Onions” and “feel good” following the drop of her single “Dora” at the end of October. Her energy is unmatched and she spits fire in every line.

“Dora” plays around with a really catchy vocal loop and synth beats that give the song a silly vibe. One of Whack’s love languages is nice, material items and although she can treat herself from her own fame, she dismisses any man who can’t fulfill this for her.

Whack is equally genius with her visuals. Teaming up with conceptual artist Alex Da Corte, “Dora” takes us back to childhood with a stop motion animation featuring Lots-o from Toy Story, Sesame Street and other random characters.

In a statement on the drop, De Corte said “Tierra and myself still feel it is urgent to find a way to speak to our feelings through music and pictures.”

With this project, Whack showed fans what goes on in her amazingly creative mind.

“feel good” like many of her other songs, is a short track that speaks volumes. Her slow vocals accompanied by a deep piano are healing in the discussion of finding happiness. It’s hard to submit to sadness sometimes, but honestly who can be happy ALL the time?

Whack gets right to the point.

“It goes happy this, it goes happy that

But somehow I can't seem to find happy Whack”

On a similar note, “Peppers and Onions” is a testament to human error. We can be sad, we can be nervous or we can be the happiest person on this Earth, but at the end of the each day, we are only humans and we will fuck up sometimes. Whack assures that no one is perfect, just a person.

“I don't wanna be judged, I just wanna be me

Even though we buy chains, we just wanna be free”

This song is a self-love anthem and Whack never fails to deliver an insane bop.

Tierra Whack deserves much more hype in the music industry. Her passion for lyrics, music and visual art are so perfectly weeded into every project. Her music is diverse, but one thing she is consistent with is utterly fun songs.

These singles are a straight 10/10.
