Songs You Would Have Skipped

I’m back with some hidden gems for you choppers. Don’t sleep on em.

Shelley FKA Dram - “Cooking with Grease”

Shelly FKA Dram (formerly known as just DRAM) is a classic underrated artist. I feel like to many, he’s a one-hit wonder, only recognized for “Broccoli” – a track that absolutely popped off in 2016 and still slaps today if we’re being honest. But most of Shelly’s discography is far more smooth, relaxed and impressive. His latest release “Cooking with Grease” is all about love and relationships; it’s a beautiful, soulful R&B ballad.

This month, he will release his sophomore album Shelley FKA DRAM, which will see 10 new cuts.

Chloe George - “ghost town (voice memo)”

Alright I’m not on TikTok so this song totally could have been something you’re already well aware of, but for me, I was happy to come across this little gem on Spotify.

Like we’ve seen time and time again, it’s easy for no-name artists to blow up on TikTok and carry their following over to streams on listening platforms. Chloe’s sweet, soft rendition of Ghost town is no exception.

This is one of my (many) favorite Kanye songs, and this is a refreshing take on the track featuring a female voice.

“World is Fucked” - WizTheMc

I love this guy's energy. WizTheMc offers similar vibes to Dominic Fike, and I’m very much on that wave right now. He’s the right amount of edgy for me. And while this song might sound extremely negative from the title, the lyrics read “I know that the world is fucked, but look outside the sun shines.”

Briston Maroney - “Sinkin’”

Briston is a 23-year-old singer from Tennessee who is really hitting modern alt-rock on the nose.

This track is the latest of his string of singles. It’s dynamic and upbeat yet emotional, and it absolutely makes me want to move my body.

Briston originally made a name for himself when his single “Freakin’ Out On the Interstate” popped off in 2018. Since then, he’s given us a couple more EPs and a handful of single, all gearing up for his debut album dropping this upcoming Friday, April 9.
