Twenty One Pilots - “Shy Away”
If you were an alt kid in middle or high school around 2013, you should channel that person soon because Twenty One Pilots is dropping an album next month. At the beginning of April, they announced their new project, Scaled And Icy, and released “Shy Away” as the preview. Waiting 3 years in between albums is a trend for Twenty One Pilots, I guess, but the vibes definitely seem different from their 2018 project Trench already.
In an interview for Apple Music's ALT CTRS, lead singer Tyler Joseph said, "you'll be able to pick up some older tricks" on the new album. "I think on Trench, our last record, I was really trying to extend myself. On this record, I tried to take everything that I had learned and go back to what I loved about music and operate under a little less fear and a little more boldness."
“Shy Away” is the first single that Joseph and drummer Josh Dun entirely produced from writing to recording. To say the least, listening to the track with this in mind, the duo killed it.
The message on this track is to make the necessary moves toward becoming who YOU want to be. Joseph said he had his little siblings in mind when writing the single.
“When you start gathering enough experiences in your life, you start recognizing someone going through something that you once went through," like feeling like an outsider, he shared. And “Shy Away” is the encouragement to find some more light in life. ”This song specifically is directed towards some people that I really love."
They released a music video for “Shy Away” and a BTS video from the production. ‘Shy Away (Beyond the Video)’ is a very raw and wholesome look into making this colorful, electric music video.
This is a catchy, sweet song to jam to as we roll out of spring. Scaled And Icy, set to drop on May 21, is going to be a great album to add to your summer tunes.
