Demi Lovato & Ariana Grande - “Met Him Last Night”

Demi Lovato’s new album Dancing With The Devil...The Art of Starting Over includes one of my longest awaited childhood collabs, a song featuring Ariana Grande.

The two close friends have created “Met Him Last Night,” a powerful melody that harmonizes oh so perfectly. 

Dancing With The Devil discusses Demi’s self-help journey after being hospitalized back in 2018 from a drug-overdose, and ultimately reflects the new and improved version of herself that she hopes will inspire others.

Demi’s recovery has been documented on YouTube in a series titled Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil, and this album is her best expression of the high’s and low’s of it all. 

According to an interview Demi did with Rolling Stone, she first played a draft of her album back in 2019 to Ariana, Ariana loved it so much she went about writing her own contribution that we finally got to hear this week.

Being one of Demi’s closest friends, Ariana knew her story. She wrote “last time you took advantage of my innocence,” illustrating that Demi has grown stronger than the Disney-channel star she once was.

“Met Him Last Night” is an R&B track with beautiful vocals from the two singers. The song discusses addiction and the love-hate relationship that comes with it. It states “I’ve seen the Devil yeah… I think I love him, though I know it ain’t right.” 

Demi’s new take on music represents self-love and reminds people who are going through the same struggle to remember that life does get better. Demi recently came out as queer last month, and I think she has taken a giant step into becoming an spitting image of recovery and power.
