Olivia Rodrigo - “Good 4 U”

Olivia Rodrigo, the singer notorious for her hit “Drivers License,” released her latest single “Good 4 U” this past Friday. The heartbroken teenager rants about an ex-boyfriend in her lyrical song for yet another time.

After her roles on Disney Channel, 18-year-old Olivia Rodrigo started releasing music, and thanks to TikTok, quickly blew up. This New Music Friday, her name was next to J.Cole and Nicki Minaj at the very top of release lists.

For her third single of the year, she presents us with another emotional, sorrowful melody that discusses the pain of breakups. “Good 4 U” tells the story of someone suffering from a breakup while their partner seems just fine.

Olivia sings “Well good for you, I guess you moved on really easily/You found a new girl and it only took a couple weeks.” She digs into a soft-spot for so many people and releases the bitter feelings that get locked up throughout heartbreak.

I think everyone can agree that her songs just hit deeply and really make you want to sing all your misery out, even if you are in a healthy relationship.

And who might Olivia be infuriated enough to write three passionate and painful singles about? Many spectate it’s her former co-worker and boyfriend from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Joshua Bassett.

Olivia Rodrigo is a very talented singer and she does a great job of complementing her voice with her lyrics and production; however, with the melancholy trend of her songs, I really hope that she does not get a reputation of being an obsessed ex-lover like the old Taylor Swift.

Whether you're going through a tough breakup or just need some therapy, go check out “Good 4 U” by Olivia Rodrigo (if you haven’t already heard it on your radio).
