Dua Lipa is back with the deluxe version of ‘Future Nostalgia’
Dua Lipa took the industry by storm and released her sophomore album Future Nostalgia a little under a year ago. Since then, she’s been riding the promo wave, putting out a remix album, performing on Saturday Night Live, and several other moments in the spotlight – she’s even been added as a player on FIFA 21.
On February 11, she released a deluxe edition of the album called Future Nostalgia (The Moonlight Edition). The deluxe set features four new songs as well as previously released singles “Prisoner” featuring Miley Cyrus, “Fever” with Angèle and “Un Día” with J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Tainy.
“We’re Good” is the best and most dynamic of the new songs, arriving with a clever music video. The song is about accepting the end of a relationship and agreeing to go separate ways. Dua Lipa suggests a clean, mutual break, ultimately saying “we’re good.”
She makes a couple bold choices with this. #1: Dua starts the track with “I’m on an island.” Meanwhile, she has been called out repeatedly for traveling to islands and various other locations during the pandemic.
#2: The music video is Titanic themed.
In the video, Dua Lipa performs at a restaurant on a cruise ship, while guests order live lobsters that are then cooked and served. The visual storyline is actually more on the lobsters in the tank than anything, giving you a glimpse of what it's like to feel trapped.
Fortunately, in line with the themes of the song, the lobsters narrowly escape the steaming pot and make it into the ocean, along with the rest of the passengers who survived the sinking ship (a symbol for a relationship gone wrong).
“If It Ain’t Me” is an upbeat anthem exploring the fear of losing someone and seeing them with someone else, dancing a sad disco and crying sequin tears. Who would want to leave Dua??
“Not My Problem (feat. JID)” isn't a particularly sophisticated track, it’s borderline overly repetitive, but I was hype to see JID on this project.
“That Kind of Women” is serving 80s vibes and I'm here for it. It’s an audacious track, exploring her forwardness – she knows what she wants and she has no interest in holding herself back. Some queen shit.
P.S. We just released a new sticker collection featuring Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia album cover. Check it out.
