Quick Takes on Tash Sultana’s ‘Tierra Firma’
The dialogue of the past year has completely exhausted the words “unprecedented” and “trying times,” and music has equally reflected the spectrum of emotions that have transpired globally. Tash Sultana’s Tierra Firma, her sophomore album, is an ode to stability. Tierra Firma translates from Latin to “solid ground.”
The instrumental opener “Musk” sets a dream-like vibe of psychedelic bliss, with a building beat that feels uplifting and hopeful. The instrumentals of the whole album are extremely complicated, beautiful, and interesting; the first track sets the tone for an album that welcomes it all.
The ever cool Australian musician is famous for being able to play 18 instruments, therefore it's no surprise I'm falling in love with the score more than the lyrics (vocals still slap though).
