How TikTokers are Taking Over The Music Industry

Everyone knows the power of having a good social media account. With people staying in due to the pandemic, more people are turning to social media as a form of entertainment. As a result, TikTok has cemented its place as one of the media giants.

The app has completely disrupted the music industry. Songs go viral constantly and artists are getting picked up by labels left and right.

Take Dixie D’Amelio for example. With over 46.2 million followers and over 1 billion likes on her page, she has definitely popped up at least once on your For You Page. She started with voice overs and dancing, and has now transitioned into music. She used the app as spring board, amassing a gigantic following before making her move on the music industry.

Back in August, she signed a label deal with HitCo Entertainment in L.A., home to Jennifer Lopez and Saint JHN among many others.

With so many people already on the Dixie train, she converted that following into Spotify plays, and ultimately money.

Not saying she is a bad singer, but with over 10 million monthly listens which is DOUBLE Anderson .Paak, more than Playboi Carti and very close to rivaling Kodak Black, we have to question her legitimacy.

Spotify claims to pay artists approximately $0.0032 per stream, which equates to 1 cent for every 3 listens. Putting this money thing into perspective, Dixie D’Amelio, who got famous for dancing and doing voice overs, rakes in about $32,000 just from Spotify. Meanwhile, both Anderson Paak and Playboi have extreme range in their voice and usually show that of when they convey different emotions or personalities. Many far more talented artists like .Paak and Carti see their streams going to Dixie.

Honestly, Dixie just doesn’t have that talent yet, and with more and more TikTokers flooding into the industry, it’s starting to look like a popularity contest instead of a talent show.
