First Jack Johnson Track in 3 Years

It's been 3 years since we’ve gotten any new Jack Johnson music. On Friday, Johnson released a new single, “The Captain is Drunk.”

The song is classic Jack Johnson feel good music – it’s smooth and easy on the ears.

The track is all about weathering the storm and serves as a perfect 2020 homage. He asks himself “what can I do?” before the lyric-less melodic and tranquil acoustic chorus. Many of us can relate to the similar sentiment “it is what it is,” which has basically served as my mantra for the past year.

Johnson draws inspiration from his favorite books growing up, the Men Against the Sea trilogy by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall. He says he was influenced by “how divided our country felt leading up to the election, the stories from this series kept popping into my mind.”

The metaphor in the song can be described as “big decisions on which way to sail in the middle of a storm as people disagree.”

A beautiful song, with a beautiful message. Thanks Jack <3
