Ca$hK
Up and coming R&B singer Kyleigh Jehlicka, or Ca$hK, is someone you ought to make yourself familiar with.
Fans of artists like Jhene Aiko, SZA, and Solange will appreciate her ethereal voice and her bubbly personality.
I got to sit down with her and talk about her life, blossoming career, and upcoming single.
Tell me about yourself. Who is Ca$h K?
"Hi, I'm Kyleigh! I go by Ca$hK. I am originally from Minnesota but spent half of my life in Fort Lauderdale Florida. I am crazy, funny, bubbly, positive, and charismatic. I love laughing and having a good time. I love making music and chilling with my friends and just doing my thing."
What kind of music do you make?
"I love R&B. I grew up on it, and it really really inspires my creativity and sound in my own music. I also love old music from the '60s & '70s."
When/how did you start making music?
"I started writing music when I was a little kid, probably like 7 or 8 years old. And from there, I started doing theater and getting into singing that way. I did that all my life and then in high school, I started learning how to produce and record myself and started my career as Ca$hK.
What artists are you inspired by? Why?
"I'm really inspired by artists that in my mind break the barriers of what's expected of them in the industry. I take a lot of inspiration from people like Lauryn Hill, Billie Eilish, SZA, Rihanna. I love strong females who set their own paths and don't give any fucks."
If you were to compare yourself to any artist, who would it be?
"Although I hate comparing myself to others, I would probably compare myself to Jhene Aiko or Summer Walker as far as sound and vibe go."
You have your first track coming out soon, “Better” - what's it about?
"Better is about bossing up and just realizing that I'm the baddest bitch, and anybody who I'm replaced with after this break up is not even comparable to me."
What does it mean specifically to you?
"To me it's about empowerment and just owning yourself and owning who you are. Not taking shit from any dude who treats you like you're expendable."
Is that what you are hoping the audience takes from it as well?
"I hope the audience gets a sense of how I see myself and how I regard my self-worth. I hope they also feel inspired and can relate to the situation that I'm singing about, and know that they're not alone if they've ever gone through something similar."
What are some short-term goals for your music career? Something you want to accomplish within the year?
"Short-term I definitely want to collaborate with more artists and just stretch my reach a lot more. I know I have a lot of potential to grow, so I want to start working and making those connections. I wanna expand my following and just put out a lot of music right now."
What about long-term goals? Something you want to accomplish within ten years?
"In the long-term, I really want to perform at either a festival or award show. I also want to have worked with people like SZA, Jorja Smith, 24kGoldn. I wanna have the opportunity to be able to start my own label and clothing line as well, but that's long-term."
What single achievement will make you feel as if you have officially "made it?"
"I would know I made it if I saw my name on a billboard in like Times Square or if I was on a sold-out tour. Those are two significant achievements of mine."
Having talked with Ca$hK, she oozed the confidence, bravado, and charm necessary to have a successful career as a musician. Additionally, her talent speaks for itself. With proper guidance and work ethic, she could certainly make some noise in the industry.
